1. What this player does

This player lets you listen to Oak Grove Radio 98.5 on your phone, tablet, or computer.
You can:

  • Hear the live stream.

  • See the currently playing artist and song title.

  • See album art for the current song.

  • Look back at songs we’ve recently played.

  • View the show schedule.

  • Choose SD or HD quality sound.

This player is a Progressive Web App (PWA), allowing us to make improvements to the app without waiting for app store approval!

2. The main screen

When the player opens, you will see:

  • The Oak Grove Radio banner at the top.

  • A square album art picture.

  • Lines that show Artist and Song.

  • A small line under that with stream info or short messages.

  • A “Stream Buffer” meter with 5 bars.

  • Three big buttons:

    • Play/Stop

    • History

    • Schedule

3. Play and Stop button

The big green button in the middle is the Play/Stop button.

  • To start listening:

    • Tap the green button once.

    • A spinning ring may show for a moment while it connects.

    • Then the icon changes to a square, which means it is playing.

    • The album art will glow a little when the music is playing.

  • To stop listening:

    • Tap the button again.

    • The music stops and the icon goes back to the triangle.

Long press to refresh

If the player seems stuck:

  • Press and hold the Play button for about one second.

  • The player hard-resets to get a fresh connection.

4. Artist, Song, and “Now Playing” line

Under the banner you will see:

  • Artist: name of the artist or band.

  • Song: title of the song.

Under those lines is a smaller line. It can show things like:

  • Stream: 64 kbps – 12 listeners

Sometimes it shows messages such as:

  • “Album artwork courtesy of iTunes”

  • “Album artwork courtesy of Deezer”

  • “Reconnecting…”

  • “Waiting for network…”

These are just status messages. After a few seconds, the normal info line comes back.

5. Album art and links

The album art box shows a picture for the song when one can be found.

The player looks for art:

  1. On the Oak Grove Radio site.

  2. On Deezer.

  3. On Apple Music / iTunes.

If the art comes from Deezer or iTunes:

  • When you tap the album art, a small message pops up telling you that you are going to Deezer or Apple Music / iTunes.

  • Then a new tab opens so you can see the track or album there.

If the art is only from Oak Grove Radio or the default station image:

  • Tapping the art will not take you anywhere.

6. Stream buffer meter

Next to the “Stream Buffer” label you will see 5 small bars.

  • More green bars = better buffer and smoother sound.

  • Fewer bars (red or yellow) = weaker connection, sound may be interrupted.

The player checks the buffer for you.
If the buffer is very low for a short time, the player will try to reconnect by itself.

7. SD / HD switch

Next to the buffer bars is the SD / HD switch.

  • SD stream:

    • Good sound quality.
    • Uses less data.

    • Usually more steady on weak internet.

  • HD stream:

    • The best sound quality.

    • Needs a stronger, more stable connection.

To switch:

  • Tap the switch once.

  • The small white knob slides left or right.

  • When the knob is on the HD side, the switch glows green.

Your choice is saved on your device, so the player remembers SD or HD next time.

8. HD lock (keep HD even on weak signal)

You can “lock” the player in HD so it does not drop back to SD on its own.

To turn HD lock on:

  1. Make sure the switch is set to HD.

  2. Press and hold the SD / HD switch for about one second.

  3. A small lock icon appears on the white knob.

  4. A message says “HD lock enabled.”

What HD lock does:

  • If the player is stopped:

    • It stays set to HD and will play in HD next time you hit Play.

  • If the player is already playing:

    • It switches to HD and stays there.

To turn HD lock off:

  • You can long press the SD / HD switch again, or

  • Tap the switch once while it is locked:

    • This turns HD lock off,

    • Switches the stream to SD,

    • Shows “HD lock disabled – switching to SD.”

9. Auto-fallback to SD when not locked

If HD lock is off and the connection is weak:

  • The player tries to reconnect to HD a few times.

  • If it still has trouble after a couple of tries, it switches itself to SD.

  • You may see: “Network is unstable – switching to SD for reliability…”

This helps keep the music playing, even on a poor connection.

10. Playlist History button

The button with the history icon is the History button.

  • Tap it once to open the playlist history panel under the player.

  • Tap it again to close the panel.

When the panel is open, you will see:

  • A list of recent songs and the time each played.

  • The current song is shown in green and bold with “(Now Playing)” next to it.

11. Schedule button

The button with the calendar or schedule icon is the Schedule button.

  • Tap it once to open the schedule in a new browser tab.

  • You can see our upcoming programs and what time they air.

12. When the stream has trouble

The player tries to fix playback problems for you. You may see messages like:

  • “Reconnecting…”

  • “Retrying stream 3/10”

  • “Waiting for network…”

“Waiting for network…” indicates your device has no data connection. The player will wait for the connection to return and should then try to reconnect. If it cannot reconnect after several tries:

  • You may see: “Unable to reconnect. Please tap play to retry.”

  • The Play button may shake a little to get your attention.

If this happens:

  1. Check your internet or Wi-Fi.

  2. Tap the Play button again.

  3. If things still seem stuck, press and hold the Play button for one second to hard-reset the app.

13. Auto-resume

If you switch apps or your screen goes to sleep:

  • If the stream was playing before, the player will try to start playing again when you return.

  • If that does not work, it will try the reconnect steps mentioned above.
